Hedy Marks, Founder

My love for travel began when I was a child. Before I even graduated high school, I had toured the sun-soaked coast of Spain (in the rain), rocked the Kasbah in Morocco, walked the Bible in Israel, and stepped inside a newly discovered Egyptian pyramid under a full moon. My parents loved to travel and thankfully, they brought their three daughters along for the journey.

I continued to explore in college—biking across Europe, sailing the world by ship—and eventually settled down, got married, had children, and spent more than 20 years working as a journalist.

Africa, though, has always held a special place in my heart. I studied wildlife conservation and anthropology in college and wrote my thesis on the positive impact tourism can have on conservation and community development. In 2016, I returned to Africa with my family, including my three young children. I wanted them not only to experience the continent’s magic, but to connect with it more personally through community engagement and philanthropy.

During a visit to a local school, we learned they needed computers. That discovery sparked a family fundraising effort that ultimately equipped the school with new technology. Meeting the students who received the computers—and seeing the difference it made—was profoundly moving. It reaffirmed what I’ve always believed: travel has the power to transform lives, both for the traveler and for the communities visited

This realization is what led me to become a travel advisor. My goal is to help others experience the same sense of wonder, connection, and purpose that travel has always brought to my life. It was the best career decision I ever made. Every day, I get to help my clients turn their travel dreams into reality.

Whether it’s a western adventure in the Rockies, a family escape to the Caribbean, or trekking to see mountain gorillas in Rwanda, each journey fills me with joy—because I know I’m helping people reconnect with themselves, with each other, and with the world in a way they never imagined possible.

  • Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, I was surrounded by the immense beauty of nature and culture. After moving to the USA, I missed the rich melting pot of Africa and had the desire to explore the world. This is where my journey began.

I have been in the customer service industry for 23 years. Sharing information is something I love. With a background in healthcare, as a registered nurse, I know how to take care of people and listen. Combining my extensive experience of personal travel and customer service, becoming a travel advisor is a dream come true. My connections through Virtuoso provide my clients access to the world’s best luxury hotels, tour operators, cruise lines and more. These amenities are exclusive to our clients.

I am honored to be a mother of three girls. I understand the importance of making memories filled with valuable experiences. Seeing the world through my children’s eyes is the icing on the cake. I want my client’s vacation to start before they leave, the anticipation of the trip is where their journey begins.

  • I grew up in a small Tennessee town where travel mostly meant a trip to Myrtle Beach or Gatlinburg. In 5th grade, I won a random drawing for a week stay at the legendary Fontainbleau Miami Beach. I felt like I had been dropped right into a movie set and was blown away by the fact that places like that even existed! It was there that my love of travel was born.

While there weren't many opportunities to scratch my travel itch in subsequent years, I more than made up for it when I did a semester abroad in college. What an eye-opener! Getting out of one's bubble is a goal that I've tried to pass along to my own son, and we aspire to travel as often as possible as a family -- the farther away, the better!

After graduating from the University of Tennessee with a degree in communications, I spent a decade at CNN. Much of my job involved planning logistics and travel for reporters and camera crews. That kind of organizing got into my blood, and now I love planning trips almost as much as actually taking them!

Picking my ideal travel destination is like choosing a favorite child. But I'd have to say the Caribbean holds a special place in my heart, especially the Bahamas. For me, it's all about that water. The lighter the blue, the better. Europe is a close second. A week in Paris, London or Rome followed by a week in the countryside is a perfect combination!

  • From an early age, I’ve had an affinity for exploration and foreign places. As a native Floridian, my family loved to camp and visit The Florida Keys (still one of my favorite destinations) but when we weren’t traveling the Southeast or visiting the Conch republic, we would go on one big trip each year. I was fortunate to spend my 16th birthday in Hawaii and was instantly hooked! I’ve since visited the Aloha state eight times and love the laid-back lifestyle. It’s become one of my favorite destinations for dishing out recommendations.

A pivotal moment for me was spending six months living and working in Australia during college. It gave me a new freedom to travel how I wanted and while I was there, I set out to explore as much of the country as possible and also took a trip to New Zealand. I love getting outside and exploring the scenery both above and below the water during my travels. As an avid scuba diver and former editor of Scuba Diving magazine, prior to joining Hedy Travel I spent the last decade diving all over the world — from the Caribbean to Indonesia and Fiji. I’m drawn to aquatic vacations but also appreciate a European getaway to visit Christmas markets or indulging in South Africa’s wine country. I am excited to share my passion and knowledge of travel in a different way now as a Luxury Travel Planner and I look forward to helping you curate your next one-of-a-kind getaway.

  • I’ve had travel wanderlust for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, always begging to tag along on my mom’s work trips across Europe, then venturing out after college to live in New York and LA. Those early adventures taught me that travel isn’t just about where you go, it’s about how a place makes you feel.

Comfort, connection, and belonging have always been my compass. Friends know me as their go-to for almost anything: the newest restaurant, a hidden gem boutique, or the perfect weekend getaway. I live for the hunt, uncovering spots that are authentic and intentional—places with heart, meaning, and a story waiting to be discovered.

With a background in beauty, wellness, and hospitality, I’ve spent my career crafting moments that feel nourishing and personal. Now I bring that same ethos to travel design, curating journeys that help you feel at home in the world wherever you land. Travel is more than a destination—it’s a hunt for meaning, connection, and joy, so the version of you that returns is transformed forever. Let’s find the places that help you come alive.
